Treatment for People who have Acted Harmfully

We provide therapeutic intervention for safety and change.

For over 30 years we’ve been helping people to stop harming loved ones and others for the sake of greater closeness and peace.  Our model values safety, accountability, awareness, empathy and insight.

Don’t wait until something serious happens to seek help.

We know you’re not the worst thing you’ve ever done.
Let us help you make things right.

Is this for me?

Our clients are just like you.

We work with people of all backgrounds to examine, identify, and change harmful patterns of behavior.  Some come to us after an incident has occurred.  Others are facing the consequences of mistreating a loved one for a long time.  Many of our clients have never been in therapy before, and others come to us desperate for a new treatment of an old problem.

Not everyone who comes to us has acted violently and nearly all of our clients are primarily harmful in an emotional or verbal manner.

Regardless of where the work starts, we help people learn to be more loving, peaceful, and successful in relationships.

Read client stories and learn about harmful behavior.

How does it work?

Our process emphasizes awareness, accountability, empathy, and insight.

Evaluation

A therapist conducts a careful and thorough evaluation, seeking to understand patterns of harmful behavior and related concerns.  We assess for readiness for change, explore personal history and look for underlying issues such as substance abuse, mental health disorders and emotional or physical trauma.

We will warmly but clearly challenge you to take responsibility for past actions and stop harming loved ones and others right away.

Recommendation

During the evaluation period, we will design a treatment plan for the greatest change and success.  While we may recommend adjunct treatment or individual therapy for some, most appropriate clients are referred for our treatment groups.

Initial treatment

Our unique model emphasizes small-group treatment to establish immediate and lasting change.  Our beginner-level psychoeducational intervention and treatment groups focus on accountability, in-the-moment problem solving, insight and skill building.  We teach a curriculum that includes discussions on gender socialization, self-soothing, building empathy and negotiating conflict non-abusively.

Clients may enter ongoing individual therapy with us in addition to group treatment.

Ongoing treatment

Following a beginner-level group period, clients may be invited to join an advanced-level group focused on repairing damaged relationships and exploring the history of harmful patterns.  Ongoing individual therapy is available to address a variety of concerns in addition to harmful behavior.
