FAQs

What are the payment options for Courdea’s services?

Please call us at 215-242-2235 or email <office@courdea.org> to discuss fees.  We are able to offer a sliding scale for participants in the treatment program for harmful behavior. Clients referred by the Department of Human Services (DHS) or through the BCC program can attend at no cost to the individual.

Is therapy at Courdea the same thing as anger management?

No- People who struggle with anger management or “have a temper” often find themselves getting angry in a variety of different settings and with many different people. Anger management focuses on recognizing signs of feeling angry and practicing techniques to control these feelings. In contrast, Courdea’s program works with individuals who specifically hurt their partners and may not have difficulty controlling feelings of anger in other situations. At Courdea, individuals work with licensed therapists to identifying the underlying sources of hurt, anxiety, and shame that lead them to be hurtful to their loved one and work to change this relationship behavior.

What if I am required to get counseling from the Department of Human Services (DHS?)

Courdea works with the Department of Human Services to provide therapy services to individuals referred by DHS. Courdea’s services are free to individuals who are DHS-referred. However, Courdea is a separate organization, and by law, we will not share what you discuss in therapy with DHS unless you sign a release of information form.

Do you work with individuals who have experienced abuse by their partners?

No, Courdea only works with individuals who have hurt their partners as well as provides general therapeutic services. Call the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline (866-723-3014) to connect with an organization that works with people who experience abuse. The Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Do you work with people who are not men?

Yes! Contrary to our name, we work individuals of all genders.

I can’t tell if I’m acting abusively. Can you help me figure this out?

Yes! Relationships are complicated– as are the underlying reasons behind our actions. At Courdea, you will work with a therapist to better understand your relationship, your behaviors, and the person you want to be in your relationship. If it becomes clear that you are experiencing abuse, we will connect you to an organization that specializes in working with partners who have experienced abuse.

How much time should I expect to dedicate to working with Courdea?

Everybody’s process is different. That said, individuals usually start by working one-on-one with a therapist for 3 to 4 weeks. After this time, individuals transition into group therapy, often for several months.
